Electronic Design Engineer, Drive Inverter

Join a team of innovative electrical and mechanical engineers at Tesla who are pioneering the next generation of power electronics for our current and future vehicle platforms. The drive inverter design team is passionate about producing designs with world-class performance and reliability that are manufactured at a massive scale.
We are seeking a highly skilled and driven electrical engineer to join us in the development of cutting-edge technologies from concept to mass production. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the drive inverter electrical design and architecture, taking ownership of subsystems while working closely with cross functional teams.

We are seeking a highly skilled and driven electrical engineer to join us in the development of cutting-edge technologies from concept to mass production. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the drive inverter electrical design and architecture, taking ownership of subsystems while working closely with cross functional teams.
What You’ll Do

Design and develop digital and analog circuits for power electronics systems including gate drivers, sensors, switched mode power supplies, processors, and safety critical functions
Start to finish ownership of controller PCBAs – from specification to design, prototype, and manufacturing
Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, thermal, manufacturing test, reliability, and integration engineers to bring designs to production
Solve challenges at scale to achieve industry leading reliability and efficiency in the world’s highest production volume EV drive inverters
What You’ll Bring

BS or higher in electrical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
Minimum 3 years of relevant hands-on electronic hardware design experience
Experience with digital and analog circuit design, schematic capture, layout, bringup and debug
Experience with supervision of PCB layout, plane definition, and EMC optimization
Medium to high volume DFT and DFM
Debugging and implementing corrective actions for field issues
Proficiency with standard EE tools (scopes, network analyzers, etc.)
Experience with DSPs, microcontrollers, and their peripheral circuitry
Familiarity with embedded firmware development
Experience with scripting for data processing and test automation, e.g. Python, MATLAB or LabVIEW
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of basic control theory, including importance of sensor bandwidths, design of compensation networks
Experience with automotive networking (e.g. CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
Knowledge of automotive environmental, reliability, and safety requirements
Experience with power semiconductors (e.g. switching waveform analysis, loss modelling)
Experience with high voltage design (creepage, clearance, isolation)
Working knowledge of electric machines, field oriented control fundamentals, thermal design, and/or mechanical design

Expected Compensation
$84,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
