STATEMENT OF DUTIES and QUALIFICATIONS:
A Sergeant leads a Corporal and three or more correctional officers in accomplishing daily correctional facility services, including distributing work and balances workload among officers in accordance with established workflow, assures timely accomplishments and assigns work so that all officers have a full workload. Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work and approval leave for emergencies. make suggestions to the Lieutenant or Deputy Chief or as required concerning promotions, reassignments, performance appraisals, and personnel needs. Responsible for the supervision of the residents of Hualapai Corrections Juvenile Division. This position involves a wide array of complex tasks related to most aspects of facility security and juvenile custody. This position is highly demanding, as facility security, staff and juvenile safety and care, are directly dependent on the officer's skills in behavior management, leadership, crisis intervention, mediation, demonstration of fairness in all dealings with staff and juvenile offenders, observation, time and task management, service referrals, and documentation. Juvenile offenders include males and females, both pre-adjudication and adjudicated. Crimes can range from misdemeanor offenders to violent felony charges for adults awaiting transfer to Federal courts and/or incarceration. Officers must be able to serve as positive role models.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Experience may have been gained working with youth offenders as a correctional officer or working in a correctional facility in a related capacity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have demonstrated the aptitude for acquiring knowledge, skills, and abilities required for correctional work, possess attributes important to the supervision of staff in a correctional facility.
