Service Coordinator | Home Care

Job Description - Service Coordinator | Home Care

Service Coordinator – Home Care

Home Instead | Columbia, MO
Full-Time | In-Office
Salary: $50,000–$55,000

You’re Not Just Filling Shifts. You’re Helping Make Care Work.

There is a person behind every open shift.

A client counting on someone to show up. A family trusting us to provide consistent care. A Care Pro who wants to feel connected, valued, and set up to succeed.

Our Service Coordinator sits at the center of all of it.

We’re looking for someone who loves people and loves solving problems. Someone who can look at a complicated schedule, think ahead, pick up the phone, bring people together, and find solutions others may not immediately see.

Someone who doesn’t wait to be told what to do when something isn’t working.

You notice it. You own it. You help solve it.

If you’re energized by relationships, problem-solving, strategy, and work that genuinely affects people’s lives, we’d love to meet you.

What You’ll Do

As our Service Coordinator, you’ll help create reliable, consistent care by making thoughtful connections between our clients and Care Pros.

You will:

  • Build schedules with intention – Match Care Pros with clients based on needs, strengths, personality, availability, consistency, and the likelihood of a successful relationship.

  • Build strong Care Pro relationships – Get to know our Care Pros, what they do well, where they thrive, and what helps them feel connected and successful.

  • Stay connected to client needs – Understand what matters to our clients and families so scheduling decisions are about more than simply filling an opening.

  • Solve problems creatively – Navigate call-offs, changing availability, new clients, schedule changes, and unexpected challenges with calm, critical thinking.

  • Think ahead – Identify upcoming gaps, patterns, risks, and opportunities before they turn into urgent problems.

  • Communicate proactively – Keep Care Pros, clients, families, and teammates informed while closing communication loops and documenting important decisions.

  • Collaborate closely – Work side-by-side with Client Care, Recruitment, and the rest of our Columbia office to create the best possible outcomes.

  • Own the outcome – Follow through beyond filling the shift. Pay attention to whether the match actually works and help make adjustments when it doesn’t.

You’ll Love This Role If…

You’re a people person and a problem-solver.

You build relationships naturally, think critically, and genuinely enjoy figuring things out.

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Take ownership and follow things all the way through

  • Think ahead and spot problems before they grow

  • Communicate confidently and proactively

  • Stay calm and creative when plans change

  • Love connecting with people and being part of a collaborative team

  • Care about getting the right outcome, not just checking the box

Most importantly, when something needs to be figured out, you’re the kind of person who leans in.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t have to come from home care to be exceptional in this role.

We’re looking for the right person and the right way of thinking.

Our ideal candidate brings:

  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Strong organization and attention to detail

  • Confidence building relationships over the phone and in person

  • Ability to prioritize multiple moving pieces in a fast-paced environment

  • Sound judgment when plans change unexpectedly

  • Comfort learning and working across multiple technology platforms

  • Strong personal accountability and follow-through

  • A collaborative, team-first mindset

  • Genuine compassion for older adults, families, and the people providing their care

Experience in scheduling, staffing, healthcare, home care, customer service, hospitality, recruiting, logistics, or another people-centered coordination role is helpful.

But experience alone won’t determine the right fit.

How you think, communicate, connect, and take ownership matters tremendously here.

This Role May Not Be for You If…

We want candidates to understand what this job really requires.

This may not be the right fit if you:

  • Prefer working independently with limited interaction throughout the day

  • Want a highly predictable job where the plan rarely changes

  • Tend to wait for direction when a problem appears

  • See scheduling as simply filling openings rather than matching people

  • Avoid difficult conversations or delay communication when something goes wrong

  • Hand off problems without making sure they are resolved

  • Struggle to prioritize when several things need attention at once

This role requires ownership, judgment, communication, creativity, and follow-through.

That’s also what makes it rewarding.

Why Home Instead Columbia?

Requirements

What We Offer

  • Full-time position

  • Paid training

  • Ongoing professional development

  • PTO

  • Benefits and 401k (with company match after one year of employment)

We believe this work is better when we’re connected.
