Job Description - Service Technician - Level C



Full-time


Description

Summary

Experienced mechanic. Performs diagnoses and troubleshooting of most vehicle issues with some supervision. Completes jobs within a given time frame and maintains a 75% return-free work record. Previously worked as an Apprentice-level technician, has at least 2 years of experience and holds at least 1 certification.

Essential Duties

  • Timely completion of work according to repair orders. Work is accurate, efficient, and in accordance with dealership and factory standards
  • Diagnose cause of problems based on customer complaint and inspection
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with individuals of all levels across the Organization
  • Confirm that all cores are returned to the Parts Department and warranty parts are properly tagged and returned to the parts dept.
  • Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
  • Communicate with Shop Foreman immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
  • Submit complete and accurate write-up for each repair completed and recommended on the repair order
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
  • Ensure customers' vehicle is kept clean. Notify Shop Foreman immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
  • Keep shop area neat and clean
  • Maintains, and is accountable for, dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received
  • Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with manufacturer technical bulletins, federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operate tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Report any safety issues immediately to Shop Foreman
  • Perform all tasks assigned by Shop Foreman, Service Manager, or management

Non-Essential Duties

  • Road test vehicles when required or refer to test technician

Requirements

Qualifications - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate regular, reliable attendance. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education/Experience

UTI/Lincoln Tech/Pennco Tech (or similar) Certification and a minimum of 2 years’ related experience, including work as an Apprentice-level technician. Experience and certifications may be substituted for formal program certification.

Language Skills - Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with customers or other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability - Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out uninvolved written or oral instructions deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Possession of at least one of the following certifications, which must be maintained
  • CVD13 – Vibration Analysis
  • CVE05 – Electronic Systems
  • CVE06 – Common Electrical Architecture
  • CVE12 – Electrical Troubleshooting
  • CVG01 – Heavy Duty Truck Systems
  • CVH02 – HVAC Diagnostics
  • Valid license in good standing with no major or minor accidents in the last 5 years

  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, step up into vehicle, and lie on back on creeper under vehicle
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, turn wrench, and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to focus

  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles

Compensation Range Disclosure

In compliance with New Jersey’s pay transparency regulations, we are disclosing the compensation range for this position. The base hourly wage for Tech C is $23-$29 an hour depending on factors such as schooling, experience, certifications and specific responsibilities.

Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications and internal equity considerations.

Benefits: This position also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid training (followed by increases as appropriate), uniforms, medical, dental, vision and life/AD&D insurances, paid holidays, vacation and sick, personal tools insured for up to $30,000 and a 401(k) plan with company match.
