Job Description - Seton College | Art Adjunct

Founded by the Sisters of Charity of New York, the University of Mount Saint Vincent (UMSV) is an academically excellent, authentically inclusive, Catholic and ecumenical liberal arts university. The University combines a strong core curriculum with a full array of majors in the liberal arts and, within the tradition of liberal education, selected professional fields of study.

About Seton College:

Seton College is a new two-year college division of UMSV that will offer an associate’s degree for 100 students that have been historically underserved, who may require additional academic support, and who are motivated for post-secondary success annually beginning in the 2024–25 academic year. The program’s goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program or to begin their professional careers. Seton College students will study on the Riverdale Campus of UMSV and have full access to UMSV’s facilities and programs.

Job Description:

ART 254: Photography & Society is an applied theory course that explores the influence of photography on contemporary culture through cultural, ethical, and technological perspectives. Students critically examine issues such as visual representation, social media, photojournalism, AI-generated imagery, and the role of photography in shaping identity and public discourse.

Through readings, discussions, and hands-on assignments, students analyze photography as both a cultural artifact and a social instrument. The course emphasizes analytical writing, visual analysis, and oral discussion, while addressing current topics including digital image manipulation, the ethics of image circulation, and the evolving impact of photography within an AI-driven media landscape. Classes will be held during the following times:

Art 254: Photography and Society

  • Tuesday and Thursday 11:15am-12:40pm
  • Tuesday and Thursday 12:50pm-2:15pm
  • Tuesday and Thursday 2:30pm-3:55pm

Responsibilities:

Adjunct faculty will be responsible for classroom management, designing and teaching engaging class activities, and holding office hours with students.

  • Teach 3–6 credits in area of expertise using evidence-based practices that support first-generation student success
  • Provide students with an up-to-date syllabus and clear course expectations
  • Create an engaging, inclusive classroom environment that fosters learning and academic excellence
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to a collaborative teaching community
  • Maintain regular on-campus office hours to support and advise students
  • Master’s degree required; doctorate preferred
  • Enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and use of active-learning methods
  • Commitment to engaging and supporting a diverse student population
  • Collaborative, student-centered approach aligned with the mission of UMSV
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Creative and proactive problem solver
  • Experience teaching HEOP students preferred

The allotted salary for this position is $1,000 per credit
