Job Description - Sexual Assault Therapist

Description

The Sexual Assault Therapist will provide advocacy, counseling and supportive services to victims of sexual assault (SA).

Requirements

Duties And Responsibilities:

  •  Coordinates, develops and conducts support, educational or accountability groups as assigned by EC Director.
  •  Assesses individual counseling needs (intakes/histories) for Sexual Assault Program clients; provides counseling services for sexual assault survivors within evidence-based therapeutic models.
  •  Provides counseling services on an individual and group basis to special as assigned.
  •  Assists in the planning and delivery of program services for Sexual Assault Program clients.
  •  Assists with training/support for staff, student intern and volunteer counselors.
  •  Assists with the development, distribution and collection of outcome evaluation tools.
  •  Completes monthly reports/statistics.
  •  Maintains client paperwork/files; completes program forms to include all intake paperwork.
  •  Assist in training and evaluation of student interns and volunteers as assigned by EC Director.
  •  Accurate tracking of open and closed client files.
  •  Assists with conducting focus groups to obtain client input into programming.
  •  Contributes to written curriculum updates.
  •  Processes walk ins or high-risk clients immediately.
  •  Is a member of the MDT and serves as an on-call team member
  •  Will respond to call for sexual assault emergencies at Corewell Hospital.
  •  Participates in SA month activities.
  •  Manages time so majority is devoted to direct services.
  •  Keeps updated on community resources that assist populations served.
  •  Documents safety planning with all victims.
  •  Follows all VOCA grant goals, objectives and outcomes.
  • Completes all VOCA required electronic reports within seven (7) days of calendar month end.
  • Completes all VOCA time sheets weekly.
  • Other administrative activities as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • Have empathy and passion for working with victims of sexual assault.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess good organizational skills
  • Ability to speak publicly and to present information on Sexual Assault to diverse people and organizations. 
  • Ability to respond supportively to persons in crisis and assemble relevant facts
  • Must have knowledge of and interest in women’s issues; particularly the dynamics of sexual assault. 
  • Ability to complete multiple duties and tasks correctly and on time without being prompted.
  • Ability to use Information Technology, including the Internet, social media, and Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Ability to learn and use program specific computer applications.
  • Ability to cooperatively work as a team, splitting duties and working together to provide the best services possible to survivors of sexual assault and their families.
  • Ability to use creative approaches and develop curriculums to meet changing population needs.
  • Must be willing and able to work with resistant populations as well as victims.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling.
  • License or limited license to counsel required.
  • Knowledge of or experience with adult victims of sexual assault. 
  • Ability to identify and meet the counseling needs of adult non-resident victims of sexual assault. 
  • Possess skills in conducting one on one as well as group therapeutic modalities. 
  • Sexual assault therapy experience preferred.
  • Group co-facilitation skills are preferred.
