Role Overview
The Sheet Metal Superintendent manages field installation of airside mechanical systems on large commercial and industrial projects. This role leads crews, enforces SMACNA standards, and coordinates closely with plumbing and piping teams to deliver fully integrated mechanical systems.
Responsibilities include overseeing jobsite safety, quality, scheduling, labor productivity, and cost control while maintaining a collaborative and professional work environment.
Core Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and supervise foremen, journeymen, and apprentices
Assign crews, forecast labor needs, and support career development
Manage sheet metal installation for HVAC and ventilation systems
Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and coordinate with BIM/VDC teams
Sequence deliveries, prefabrication, and on-site installation with other trades
Maintain alignment with GC, project managers, and field leadership
Enforce OSHA 30 standards and company safety policies
Conduct toolbox talks, audits, and site inspections
Ensure SMACNA-compliant installations and resolve quality issues
Prepare daily reports, look-ahead schedules, productivity tracking, and as-builts
Monitor labor, equipment, and cost vs. budget
Participate in weekly coordination meetings and present progress updates
Required Background
5+ years supervisory experience in commercial mechanical sheet metal
OSHA 30 certification
Strong knowledge of SMACNA and HVAC duct installation standards
Proven ability to lead crews of 20+ on large projects such as hospitals, data centers, and high-rises
Proficiency with construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar
Valid drivers license with ability to pass background, drug, and MVR screenings
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work at heights
Master HVAC license or equivalent preferred
Experience with BIM coordination and prefabrication processes preferred
Lean construction or productivity improvement experience preferred
