Job Description - Shelter Manager



Full-time


Description

The Shelter Manager is responsible for the daily administrative operation of the shelter, and supervision of the Resident Assistants. The Shelter Manager reports to the Program Director for weekly supervision and programmatic assignments.

 

Location: Chamblet Family Home in Dorchester provides life-stabilization services, intensive housing placement services and vocational case management services to homeless families and to pregnant women. Our program helps families increase self-sufficiency, gain healthy nutritional knowledge, search for more permanent housing and build job-readiness skills.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Act in accordance with Victory Programs Standards of Excellence at all times. Including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries and client confidentiality.
  • Ensures the program is in compliance with all contractual requirements regarding documentation, facility requirements, and licensing.
  • Co-facilitate weekly staff meetings in conjunction with Program Director.
  • Maintain program inventory for all supplies.
  • Maintain demographic data sheets monthly.
  • Supervise, direct, train and evaluate the Resident Assistants with the support of the Program Director, Director of Victory Housing and the Chief Human Resource Officer. 
  • Ensure all staff maintain proper documentation and record keeping. 
  • Coordinate monthly staff schedule for the shelter.    
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedules and provide emergency coverage of uncovered shifts when required. 
  • Coordinate monthly client calendar including educational groups, activities, and events provided by internal staff and external community-based organizations. 
  • Communicate effectively with funders, referral sources, vendors and community-based organizations. 
  • Develop new and maintain existing service linkages to support the program, including developing relationships with local service providers. 
  • Transport residents as needed. 
  • Collaborate with other Shelter Managers to ensure continuity of services and care.
  • Attend weekly supervision with the Program Director. 

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Represent the program in the community as requested by your supervisor. 
  • Attend all staff meetings, training and workshops as requested by your supervisor.
  • Participate and support the agency in program holiday events, trade association activities, State House rallies, fundraising and advocacy events, HIV/AIDS rally and walk and any additional functions. 
  • Perform other duties or tasks that may from time to time be requested by the Program Director or the Director of Victory Housing. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or two years of human services management experience required. 
  • Two years of supervisory experience is required. 
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills. 
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license with a safe driving point of 98, 99, 00, 01, 02 or 03. 
  • Knowledge of and experience working with individuals who are homeless or have Substance Use Disorders. 
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team. 
  • Ability to relate to residents in an instructive, directive, firm yet compassionate manner. 
  • Knowledge of the addiction recovery process, or a willingness to acquire it within the first six months of employment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multicultural settings with diverse client groups, including those with mental health issues. 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills including an ability to have open and affirming conversations.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be CPR certified (may be obtained upon hire)
  • Completed TB screening (may be obtained upon hire)
  • Three work related professional references; at least 2 from manager or supervisor.

Position Type: Full-time (40 hours) Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday

Rate: $63,787 Annually

Upon hire, all staff are entitled to up to: 4 personal days, 160 sick hours, 10 holidays and 3 1/2 weeks of vacation. These figures adjust based on full time or part time status and allocated vacation time increases with length of employment.
