Job Overview

Join a mission driven organization located in Englewood, FL as a Full-Time Shelter Veterinarian. As part of this team, your role will be to provide compassionate, accessible care that helps pets stay with and find the families who love them. This role blends community medicine, surgery (including HVSN), and shelter medicine in a collaborative, high-impact setting.

You'll see a wide range of cases - from wellness and sick visits to chronic disease - while also performing HVSN and other elective or safety-net procedures on our shelter animals. You will partner closely with a team to deliver practical, incremental care that serves the shelter and community.

Responsibilities

Coordinates and directs shelter medical operations and ensures sound veterinary medical practices

Continuously improves the medical management program and ensures high-quality medical care and services for shelter and clinic guests, focusing on identification, treatment, and prevention of health problems thereby increasing adoptions and decreasing adoption returns

Makes recommendations and collaborates with the Clinic Manager in the creation of shelter medical objectives, practices, plans, and decisions that influence operations to ensure optimal health of sheltered animals

Oversees the maintenance of shelter drug and supply inventory while meeting and maintaining DEA requirements

Maintains effective communication with staff through daily contact, in scheduled meetings, informally or in writing, as needed to coordinate and direct medical functions of the shelter

Treats people and animals with respect, contributes to effective teamwork, promotes inter-departmental cooperation and fosters public relations beneficial to SHS.

Qualifications

Veterinary degree from an accredited institution with valid licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the state of FL.

Current DEA license

Maintenance of malpractice insurance

Proven veterinary experience with a focus on small animal care; shelter or emergency veterinary experience is highly desirable.

Ability to work well within ever-changing needs of a shelter environment

Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a diverse staff, volunteers and community in a professional, pleasant, and respectful manner at all times

Work Schedule: 5 Consecutive Days (Negotiable but preferred)

 

Compensation: $120k-$150k
