Position Purpose: The Yard Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the Shipping and Receiving operations at UTD, including supervision of the yard crew, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with schedules and safety protocols. This role ensures that yard activities are executed in a safe, efficient, and organized manner, while providing direction and support to lift operators ensuring all paperwork is accurately maintained.



JOB OVERVIEW



  • Oversee Shipping and Receiving for UTD.

  • This is a full-time position. Generally, days and hours of work are [Monday through Friday], [5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.] Some Saturdays as needed are possible but rare.

  • This position is not exempt from overtime pay.

  • No travel is expected for this position.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervision of the yard crew.

  • Administration of all Inbound and Outbound paperwork.

  • Perform daily and weekly counts of Inventory as needed.

  • Assure adherence to the Appointment Schedule.

  • Keep Freight screen and Appointment Schedule updated with real time information.

  • Perform Pre-Shift meetings daily and report topics to Operations Manager.

  • Responsible for working with Maintenance Department to achieve desired yard gravel and dust maintenance.

  • Address inventory discrepancies.

  • Assure all lift operators are directed properly in order of 1. Safe 2. Right 3. Efficient

  • Personally be on time and in compliance with the Company Handbook.

  • Any other tasks assigned by the VP of Operations.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Valid driver’s license

  • Forklift experience:

    • Must have UTD forklift certification, forklift permit, or the ability to demonstrate safe handling of forklift in an on-site test.




OR





    • Must have at least 3 months of forklift experience in the past 3 years





KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:



  • Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy in handling, loading, unloading, and labeling of products.

  • Time Management: Efficiently manage workload to meet production goals and schedules.

  • Teamwork and Communication: Communicate effectively with team members and provide support to ensure a productive work environment.

  • Safety-First Mindset: Ability to work in a manner that prioritizes safety, followed by accuracy and speed, reflecting UTD’s values of “Safe, Right, Fast.”

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot issues related to equipment, product handling, and general production processes.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust tasks based on changing operational needs and a willingness to take on various roles as assigned.

  • Knowledge: of the Company Brand Commitment, Mission, Vision, and Values and a desire to be better every day. Ability to use computers to do primary things.

  • Product knowledge of the UTD products

  • Knowledge of OSHA, state and federal rules and regulations and comply with them during daily functions.



WORK CONDITIONS:



  • Physical Activity: Requires prolonged sitting, standing, driving, and exposure to forklift and machine vibrations. Physical activities also include climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, bending, and walking.

  • Material Handling: Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds, including handling wood products, tarping, and strapping loads.

  • Outdoor Work Conditions: Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and humidity, as well as being exposed to fumes and airborne particles.

  • PPE Requirement: Wear required Personal Protective Equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, earplugs, and safety-toe boots, in designated areas.
