About the Role

We are seeking a Shipping Packer to provide onsite support at Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) located at Port Hueneme, California. This role will be responsible for preparing finished products for shipment or storage by placing them in shipping containers. The Shipping Packer will make sure the shipments are prepared according to the type, size, and number of units to be packed, the type of container employed, and the method of shipment.

 This is a fully onsite position in Port Hueneme, CA.  

Responsibilities

• Select the appropriate type and size of the container, inserting enclosures in a container.
• Use excelsior or other material to prevent breakage or damage, closing and sealing container, and applying labels or entering identifying data on the container.
• Perform quality control assessments and stacking items safely and securely in the right packaging.
• Ensure that all the merchandise is safely and securely packed and labeled for shipping.
• Manage all merchandise with appropriate care.

Required Experience and Skills

• Knowledge of packing and shipping procedures
• Good knowledge of basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work independently and safely
• Previous shipping and packing experience preferred
• Abide by the Federal Drug-Free workplace policy.
• Must be able to pass government background check requirements as set by clients.
• Must be either a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident with a minimum of 3 years of legal residency in the U.S.

Education and Training

• High school diploma or GED

• Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, and arm movement. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing of at least 50 pounds.
• Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders.
• Exposed to danger from the sharp cutting edges of machinery, rough edges of timbers, and sliding, slipping, or falling objects.
• Exposed to various changes in weather conditions since most work is performed in unheated freight cars and trucks. Exposed to dust, dirt, and the noise of woodworking machinery.

Pay Range

The projected hourly pay range for this position is $20.86/hour - $20.86/hour USD.

Benefits Information

This is a Service Contract Act (SCA) position. Health & Welfare, vacation, holiday and sick leave offered will be as defined under the DOL's Wage Determination.
