Shipping Supervisor

SHORT SUMMARY: The Shipping Supervisor leads daily operations, manages staffing, enforces safety protocols, and drives performance and process improvements in alignment with company values and operational objectives.

 SUMMARY: The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for organizing, verifying, and overseeing the accurate and timely shipment of raw materials and finished products. This role ensures orders are fulfilled according to customer requirements and delivery schedules, with proper loading and inspection for damage. The Supervisor collaborates closely with internal departments, carriers, and customers to support efficient logistics operations. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, commitment to safety, and alignment with Ohio Gratings’ mission, vision, and guiding principles. The individual must also be able to work in various weather conditions and adhere to the company’s drug-free workplace and safety policies.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Shipping and Logistics Operations:

 ·       Coordinate loading, packaging and staging of outbound shipments to meet customer delivery requirements.

·        Verify shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing slips, and labels are applied correctly.

·        Ensure products are packaged, staged, and loaded accurately and safely for transport.

·        Communicate Internal departments to resolve shipping issues or delays.

·        Maintain shipping records in the ERP system and track shipments to confirm delivery.

·        Perform final quality checks to confirm accuracy of items being shipped.

·        Conduct periodic audits of shipping practices to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.

·        Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping dock and staging area.

·        Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

 Supervisory Responsibilities:

·        Supervise and lead all personnel in the shipping Department.

·        Assign daily tasks and monitor workloads to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.

·        Train and mentor shipping team members in proper procedures, safety standards, and performance expectations.

·        Evaluate team performance, deliver feedback, and assist in performance reviews and disciplinary processes.

·        Promote a team culture centered on safety, accountability, quality, and service.

·        Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and DOT/OSHA regulations.

·        Collaborate with production, logistics, sales, and customer service teams to manage order flow and resolve shipment challenges.

·        Identify and implement process improvements to enhance shipping accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

 EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES:

·     High school diploma or equivalent required.

·     Preferred qualifications: at least 3 years of experience in material handling or receiving.

·     Proficiency with inventory management systems and ERP software.

·     Strong data entry and computer skills.

·     Ability to read and understand standard and metric measures, perform basic arithmetic, and write clear notes or memos.

·     A driven team player with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.

Physical Demands:

• Regularly perform repetitive movement tasks, including standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and grasping.


• Regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds using proper lifting techniques or equipment.

 Work Environment:

• Regularly work on the production floor, requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).


• Exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold.


• Work around machinery and tools, requiring strict adherence to safety standards.
