What is the Job all About?
The Shipping Technician is primarily responsible for boxing and filling product orders to meet customer specifications and company goals. The technician keeps inventory records, prints labels, ships products and keeps a clean product storage area. The position requires great attention to detail; specific procedures can be learned on the job.
Major Duties
Boxes customer orders for culture media, anaerobe chambers, parts and other products in a timely and accurate manner.
Keeps stock inventory records up to date for lot number and quantity.
Reviews media for expiration dates and notifies manager or removes from area.
Operates equipment such as the shipping computer/labeling system and forklift.
Maintains clean and organized product storage area, notifies supervisor if there are problems.
Ensures safe workplace practices are utilized in the warehouse area and that stock is secured.
Is backup to the Shipping Manager, prints shipping labels according to transportation company requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of warehouse/shipping operations and ability to keep area clean and organized.
Skill in packing routine products and those requiring special handling (special labeling, ice packs, protective materials).
Knowledge of transportation systems and schedules used by Anaerobe Systems to ship products.
Ability to communicate effectively with others (i.e. co-workers, management, outside transportation workers).
Knowledge of Anaerobe Systems policies, standard operating procedures, safety guidelines and regulatory requirements (i.e. FDA, ISO, GMP) applicable to the Shipping Department.

Supervisory Controls
The employee reports to the Customer Service/Office Manager, who sets the schedule and procedures and is available to help with the more difficult problems. The employee receives day to day operations directions from the Shipping Manager.
The position is non-supervisory.
Guidelines
Procedures and work instructions for storing products, processing orders and shipping products are available. Situations to which the existing guidelines and procedures cannot be applied are referred to the supervisor.
Procedures for operating and/or maintaining shipping equipment are typically found in the corresponding user manual. Training is provided.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Stretch breaks of 1-2 minutes each hour is encouraged when tasks require standing or sitting in one place for more than 1-2 hours at a time; regular rest breaks and lunch breaks are provided.
The employee is regularly required to:
See details of products related to shipping (i.e. product identification, expiration date)
Hear auditory signals such as delivery vehicle horns, forklifts, alarms.
Use fingers/hands to assemble boxes or to grasp, move, pack products, use computers
Reach out to obtain, carry or move products, including stacks of product on pallets or rollers
Sit or stand for up to 2 hrs.
Bend and lift boxes, supplies and products (i.e. 15-35 lbs.)
Understand/communicate instructions in English
Maintain predictable attendance; uphold a professional work demeanor
Additional Information:
Work is performed in a temperature controlled clean warehouse setting. Specific personal protective equipment (i.e. lab coats or smocks, safety glasses/personal glasses, disposable gloves, close toed/non-skid shoes) and safety practices (i.e. tied back hair, frequent handwashing, proper chemical handling, cleaning) are required. There is minimal potential exposures to chemical hazards. Safety training and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are provided.
