Shipping/Receiving Operator

The Shipping/Receiving Operator is responsible for tracking inventory, handling all aspects of shipping and receiving as directed, and keeping accurate records. Shipping will require packaging materials, printing labels, weighing materials and determining appropriate shipping labels. Receiving will require comparing bills of lading with materials received and inspecting for damaged or nonconforming materials. 

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Sort and move materials to and from storage or production areas by hand or using a forklift or other equipment
2. Determine method of shipping and prepare shipping documents
3. Receive materials – review and sign delivery slips and assist with unloading when necessary
4. Follow necessary customer specifications for shipping material
5. Identify and transport materials to and from various locations when requested
6. Maintain accurate inventory database and paperwork
7. Weigh and tag all inbound materials and track using database
8. Perform daily preventative maintenance on equipment as required
9. Follow dress code and ensure PPE is worn at all times

Job Requirements/Skills

1. Knowledge of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous materials
2. Forklift experience required
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
4. Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work efficiently

Education/Experience

1. High school diploma or GED preferred

Physical Requirements

1. Walk, sit, stand, stoop for long periods of time
2. Ability to climb on/into mobile equipment
3. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
4. Exposure to physical operations in scrap recycling facilities, including walking/climbing in active industrial yards with uneven surfaces in inclement weather
