Shipyard Maintenance Manager (Ferry)

GovFirst is seeking to hire a Shipyard Maintenance Manager to oversee ferry vessel maintenance projects and shipyard operations across Virginia at Jamestown-Scotland Ferry locations within the Transportation Operations Division. This role ensures vessels are properly maintained, compliant with standards, and ready for service.

• Collaborate with VDOT management, ferry crew, and maintenance staff to determine vessel needs for upcoming shipyard periods.
  

• Prepare and write shipyard bid packages utilizing VDOT input and industry knowledge to minimize up-charges.
  

• Communicate and coordinate effectively with VDOT, JSFerry, and U.S. Facilities regarding shipyard activities.
  

• Provide daily oversight at the shipyard to inspect work progress and ensure quality of workmanship.
  

• Monitor condition reports and hold shipyard contractors accountable to contract terms.
  

• Work with shipyard personnel on scheduling and provide weekly updates on project completion percentages.
  

• Negotiate additional shipyard services and document shipyard periods through detailed logs.
  

• Ensure all shipyard work strictly adheres to VDOT, JS Ferry, and USCG standards.
  

• Monitor vessel activities to maintain a safe working environment.
  

• Read and interpret vessel drawings and schematics.
  

• Assist JS Ferry with special projects as required and perform other duties assigned by supervisors and Project Managers.
  

Requirements

• Proven experience managing vessel maintenance and shipyard projects.
  

• Ability to work independently and off-site.
  

• Strong communication and coordination skills with vendors, shipyard staff, and government agencies.
  

• Proficient in Google email, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  

• Knowledge of VDOT, JS Ferry, and USCG standards for vessel maintenance.
