The Canrig Shop Electrician III performs advanced electrical inspection, fault isolation, repair, overhaul, wiring, integration, and functional testing. The role resolves complex electrical issues, verifies repair and test quality, strengthens technical consistency, and shares practical technical knowledge with less-experienced electricians.

Electrical Inspection, Repair, and Assembly

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, overhaul, wire, integrate, assemble, and prepare complex electrical components and drilling equipment for return to service under approved drawings, procedures, and specifications.

• Diagnose complex or recurring faults involving wiring, motors, drives, control circuits, panels, power distribution, sensors, and integrated electrical systems; determine repair actions and escalate conditions outside authorized scope.

• Select and use appropriate termination tools, multimeters, amp probes, insulation-resistance testers, and other approved diagnostic equipment to complete and verify complex repairs safely.

• Perform and evaluate point-to-point, continuity, resistance, insulation-resistance, and other approved electrical tests within authorization.

Electrical Testing and Functional Verification

• Review electrical equipment condition and identify damaged conductors, terminals, connectors, insulation, components, labels, or other nonconforming conditions.

• Conduct and evaluate approved electrical and functional tests; document results and resolve or escalate deficiencies before job closure.

• Follow defined inspection points, verification requirements, and escalation protocols.

Electrical Preventive Maintenance and Work Readiness

• Complete and support complex preventive maintenance and service activities for assigned electrical equipment and shop test assets.

• Inspect assigned tools and test equipment before use and remove damaged or unserviceable items from operation.

• Organize work steps, materials, parts, and tools to support safe and efficient job progress.

• Follow required electrical safety, environmental, quality, and shop procedures, including applicable lockout/tagout and authorization requirements.

• Participate in pre-job planning, hazard identification, and risk controls for assigned repair and testing activities.

• Maintain an orderly work area and handle equipment, tools, parts, and waste in accordance with applicable requirements.

• Share electrical repair techniques, system knowledge, and job-specific guidance with less-experienced electricians while remaining accountable for assigned work.

• Coordinate with supervisors, quality personnel, materials teams, and other functions to resolve technical or workflow issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• 5-7 years of electrical assembly, industrial electrical maintenance, electrical equipment repair, or closely related experience.

• Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose, repair, integrate, and test complex electrical equipment and control systems.

• Advanced working knowledge of industrial electrical components, wiring methods, motors, drives, control circuits, power distribution, and electrical equipment applicable to assigned work.

• Ability to interpret complex wiring diagrams, schematics, bills of material, system documentation, specifications, and approved test procedures.

• Ability to use approved hand tools, termination tools, torque tools, and electrical test instruments safely and accurately within training and authorization.

• Ability to use required personal protective equipment. Respirator use, when required by the assigned task, is subject to applicable medical evaluation, fit testing, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Vocational, technical, apprenticeship, or associate-level training in electrical technology, industrial electricity, electronics, or a related discipline.

• Experience repairing electrical systems on Canrig or other OEM drilling equipment, including top drives, powered catwalks, drawworks, control consoles, motors, drives, or related assemblies.
