Job Description - Shop Foremen



Key Services Provided

  • Work Dispatching and Assignment
    Coordinates and assigns repair orders (ROs) to technicians based on their skill levels, specialties, current workload, and shop capacity. This ensures balanced distribution, prioritizes urgent or high-value jobs (e.g., VIP customers, upsells), matches tasks to the right expertise, and helps achieve promised completion times for customers.

  • Shop Operations Oversight and Leadership
    Supervises day-to-day activities in the service/repair area, monitors progress on each job throughout the day, conducts spot checks for quality control, minimizes comebacks (repeat repairs), and maintains high standards of workmanship and safety.

  • Technician Support and Development
    Provides technical guidance, troubleshooting assistance, and mentoring to technicians. Trains staff on procedures, tools, and best practices; recruits/motivates qualified team members; and addresses performance or morale issues to foster a productive environment.

  • Efficiency and Productivity Management
    Tracks technician productivity, monitors key metrics (e.g., hours sold vs. flagged, efficiency reports), and implements improvements to increase shop throughput—often boosting overall efficiency by 10-15% in well-run operations. Manages equipment, tools, and inventory (including special tools and recommendations for new purchases).

  • Liaison and Communication Role
    Acts as a bridge between service advisors, parts department, technicians, and management. Ensures clear, real-time communication on job status, parts availability, delays, or changes. Handles customer concerns or complaints when needed, fills in for service advisors during peak times, and supports smooth workflow across departments.

  • Compliance and Administrative Support
    Ensures adherence to safety regulations, manufacturer policies, warranties, and shop cleanliness/organization. Maintains records, assists with scheduling, and contributes to budgeting or forecasting for the service department.
