Shop Service Technician – Frac Refurbish Tech

Holt CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full-time, 1st shift Heavy Equipment - Shop Service Technician position available at our San Antonio, Texas with our Power Systems Division located at ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­5665 SE Loop 410 San Antonio, TX 78222. The hours of the position are Monday-Friday, 7 am to 4 pm.

This mechanic position is responsible for refurbishing frac trailers and related components including engines, pumps, transmissions, etc.

Education and Experience:

• At least two years of diesel-powered heavy equipment engine repair experience preferred
• Ability to troubleshoot and perform complex repairs such as teardown, inspection, and repairs of diesel engines (natural gas) in a shop environment
• Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

• Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred
• Experience with Frac equipment preferred

Additional Requirements:

• Must have all required mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)

Essential Functions:

• Diagnoses, rebuilds, and repairs equipment and trailers
• Disassembles and assembles machine components on frac pumping units to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
• Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
• Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
• Removes and installs hydraulic hoses
• Assists in the startup and testing of frac pump units
• Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
• Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
• Mentors and helps train other technicians
• Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
• Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
• Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
• Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of forklift, scissor lift, and overhead crane operation
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
• Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
• Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
• The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
• Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
• The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
• The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
• The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
• Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
• Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
• Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet, and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
• Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
• Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
