Shop Helper - Trucks & Heavy Equipment

Job Summary:
The Shop Helper assists mechanics and technicians with the maintenance, repair, and servicing of trucks and heavy equipment. This role supports daily shop operations by performing basic tasks, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and ensuring tools, parts, and equipment are organized and available. The Shop Helper is an entry-level position designed for individuals who are eager to learn and grow within the heavy equipment and trucking industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist mechanics with routine maintenance and repair tasks on trucks and heavy equipment.


• Perform basic services such as checking fluids, changing filters, greasing equipment, and cleaning parts.


• Organize and stage parts, tools, and supplies for mechanics.


• Maintain a clean and orderly shop, including sweeping, disposing of waste, and organizing tools and work areas.


• Operate forklifts, service trucks, or shop equipment (with proper training and certification).


• Wash and clean trucks, trailers, and equipment as needed.


• Deliver and pick up parts or equipment when requested.


• Assist with tire changes, batteries, and other minor shop services.


• Follow all company safety procedures and wear required PPE.


• Support the mechanics and fleet team with any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).


• Previous experience in a shop, construction, or mechanical setting is a plus but not required.


• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.


• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.


• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).


• Strong work ethic, reliability, and teamwork skills.

Working Conditions:

• Shop and field environment with exposure to heavy equipment, trucks, tools, and machinery.


• Must be able to work safely around moving equipment and in various weather conditions.
