The Shop Manager is responsible for managing construction materials, tools, and equipment within the company warehouse and yard. This role supports self-perform construction operations by sourcing materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, preparing jobsite deliveries, and ensuring materials and equipment are organized, maintained, and ready for use.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Warehouse & Inventory Management
Organize and maintain warehouse, yard, and storage areas
Receive, inspect, label, and store incoming materials and equipment
Track inventory levels and maintain accurate records
Identify shortages, damaged items, excess inventory, and material needs
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within warehouse areas
Materials Purchasing & Vendor Coordination
Source and purchase construction materials, tools, and supplies
Compare pricing, availability, and lead times to obtain best value
Coordinate material needs with project managers and supervisors
Verify purchase orders and delivery accuracy
Communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies or issues
Jobsite Deliveries & Logistics
Pull, stage, and prepare materials for scheduled projects
Load and unload company vehicles and trailers
Deliver materials and equipment to jobsites as scheduled
Assist with basic general labor related to material handling during deliveries
Coordinate returns of unused or surplus materials
Tools, Equipment & Fabrication Support
Track company tools and equipment assigned to crews
Assist with basic maintenance, organization, and readiness of tools
Perform welding and light fabrication for miscellaneous warehouse items, racks, carts, fixtures, and equipment repairs
Identify damaged equipment and coordinate repair or replacement
Safety & Compliance
Follow all company safety policies and procedures
Maintain safe material handling and equipment operation practices
Report safety concerns or incidents to management
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 2–5 years of experience in construction warehouse, materials management, or related field
Strong working knowledge of construction materials and tools
Proven ability to manage inventory and material flow
Welding experience required (MIG preferred; TIG/Stick a plus)
Mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills
Ability to safely lift and move construction materials
Preferred Qualifications
Forklift certification or willingness to obtain
Experience purchasing materials for construction projects
Familiarity with construction suppliers and vendors
Experience with inventory tracking systems or basic ERP software
Physical Requirements & Working Environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in warehouse and yard environments
Primarily warehouse and yard-based
Occasional jobsite visits for material deliveries and dumpster pick up
Exposure to typical construction materials, tools, and equipment
