Job Description - Shop Technician (Electrical)

The Shop Technician is responsible for wiring electrical boxes and installing electrical components into manufactured well service rigs. This role requires hands-on experience with electrical systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics. The technician will ensure all installations meet company safety standards and operational requirements.


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Wire electrical boxes and install electrical components (switches, relays, control panels, lighting, etc.) into well service rigs according to company engineering specifications and blueprints.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation to determine wiring layouts and installation procedures.

  • Test and diagnose electrical systems and components for functionality, safety, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.

  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on installed electrical systems.

  • Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to ensure proper integration of electrical components.

  • Adhere to company safety protocols and industry standards throughout all tasks.

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including installation logs and inspection reports.

  • Assist with system upgrades and modifications as required.

  • Keep up-to-date with developments in electrical technology, codes, and standards.


 


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)



  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship in electrical work preferred.

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in electrical wiring or installation, ideally in industrial or vehicle manufacturing environments.

  • Valid electrician’s license or certification (as required by state/local regulations).

  • Proficiency in using electrical tools and diagnostic equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Good physical condition; able to lift up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, and at heights.

  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and relevant safety standards.

  • Experience with well service rigs or similar heavy equipment is preferred.

  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems is preferred.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills are preferred.
