Job Description - Shop Welder/General Mechanic

Muschlitz Excavating is seeking a skilled Shop Welder/General Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for welding and assembling metal components in a controlled shop environment, ensuring precision and structural integrity in every project.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Repair or modify equipment as needed based on project requirements
Measure, cut, and prepare metal pieces using hand tools, saws, and grinders
Set up and operate welding equipment (MIG, TIG, Stick) to join metal components
Align and clamp parts using calipers, rulers, and fixtures to ensure proper fit
Inspect and test welds for quality, strength, and compliance with specifications
Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to company, government, and equipment related safety requirements
Follow all shop safety procedures, including use of PPE and equipment maintenance
Effectively communicate equipment issues with supervisor
Performs other duties as assigned by the manager
Mandatory overtime (as needed)

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a welder in a shop or industrial setting
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification preferred
MUST have own tools
Proficiency in MIG, TIG and Stick welding techniques
Familiarity with metal types and welding properties
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and welding codes (e.g., AWS)
Exhibit a clear understanding of the necessity of equipment safety and a high level of safety consciousness
Ability to communicate equipment issues and understand job assignments
Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable diving record

Work Environment

Indoor fabrication shop
May involve lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods
Exposure to loud machinery and welding fumes (PPE provided)
