Summary:

A Short-Term Substitute Teacher is a temporary position, covering classes for teachers who are absent – implementing lesson plans for the day; Demonstrating good classroom/behavior management skills in order to maintain a safe learning environment; Adhering to school policies and procedures; Communicating with school personnel as needed.

 

Job Description:

Qualifications:

• Minimum two years of college/university coursework

• Experience working with children in an educational setting or child care/camp setting

• Knowledge and understanding of child development and/or adolescent needs

• Ability to provide/implement appropriate instructional activities for secondary school students

• Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language required

Employment Information:

• Employment Dates: August 10, 2026 – December 18, 2026

• All employees hired must undergo and pay for a background investigation if selected for the job and must be cleared before starting first day on the job.  Current fee for the investigation can range from $35.50 to $135 depending on your location.

• Background Check and SARP must be in good standing

• Compensation:  $20.50 per hour

• Hours:  Full Day – 8:15am - 3:45pm, Monday through Friday (subject to change according to MSSD Programs)

• Deadline: Until Filled

This is a temporary, full-time position, lasting until December 18, 2026, or until the position is filled permanently. 

 

Other Important Information:

• The successful candidate will undergo a background check that must be cleared prior to working at Gallaudet University.
