Description

Position Summary: Fabricators are manufacturers of assorted products using various raw materials, tools, and their own hands. Their primary responsibilities include reading and understanding assembly instructions, ensuring that the required parts are present and meeting quality control standards. Fabricators are responsible for adhering to the production schedule, ensuring that parts are properly fitted, and aligned and secured.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

General Responsibilities

• Responsible for utilizing plans for production.
• Responsible for high quality creation of products according to specifications.
• Monitors project progression to ensure on-time completion.
• Coordinate with Fabrication Supervisor and/or relevant personnel to communicate workflow and project status.
• Maintains a safe work environment and ensure the maintenance and upkeep of the physical location.

Fabricator

• Performs routine construction/assembly activities, such as wiring, cutting, gluing, etc.
• Understands and has basic welding skills for fabrication of primarily aluminum, and sometimes steel.
• Safely operates welders, machines, and hand tools.
• Lay out and scribe material for proper size, cutting, notching, and sheering so that waste is kept to a minimum.
• Sets up and operates fabricating machines such as shears, press brakes, table saws, chop saws, drill presses, punches, and routers to cut and bend materials for fabrication.
• Welds, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, or bonds component parts to assemble products.
• Inspects, tests, cleans, and packs various products

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collaborate and maintain successful team relationships.
• Meets all assigned goals and assists others in accomplishing their goals.
• Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
• Responsible for safely loading/unloading materials for transport.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience with general shop tools and maintenance.
• Experience with welding and relevant fabrication machinery/equipment including shears, brakes, welders, and band saws.
• Excellent Time management: the ability to organize/manage multiple projects until completion in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong basic math skills. 

Education and Work Experience:

• No educational requirements
• Prior work experience as a fabricator in a metal shop
• Prior construction/build experience
• CNC router experience a plus
• Basic computer skills a plus

Reporting to this Position: No direct reports.

• Physical Demands: This position lifts heavy objects of up to 50 pounds regularly and 70 lbs. occasionally, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, and carries objects and uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs.

• Work Environment: This position regularly works in workshop conditions that include cold, heat and humidity. The noise level in the work environment is commensurate with a construction site. This position secondarily works in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. The noise level in the work environment is commensurate with a construction site.

Expected Hours of Work/Travel: This is a full-time position in the Winston Salem office during regular business hours. Days and hours of work are dictated by the nature of the scope of work which can include long hours and weekend work.
