Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Fluent in English
• PC literate
• Ability to handle stressful situations
• Ability to meet physical demands as stated in - “Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions” at the end of this purpose description

Preferred Qualifications:

• Medical Terminology
• BLS

Duties and Responsibilities:

As a member of Peri-operative services, employees should seek to anticipate the needs of our surgeons, patients, anesthesia providers and peers. Thoughtful anticipation is the key attitude employees should strive to achieve in all of their interactions. Employees should use this value to create a positive, helpful, and supportive environment for our patients to receive care.•  Receive and process scheduled surgery requests from physicians

• Receive information via fax, electronic file or phone and input to computer so all critical information is transmitted and communicated correctly helping to ensure best possible patient outcome.
• Work with office staff to ensure accurate information is provided in the most effective manner when scheduling cases
• Provide procedure time information to the OR Supervisor, team leads and others requiring scheduling information
• Work with Pre-Anesthesia Screening Services Staff to schedule appointments
• Maintain scheduling strips on the “Schedule Board” to ensure all information is accurate
• All other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:

Summary:

• All Peri-Operative Services jobs may place heavy physical demands on the employee. The amount of time that the employee is exposed to these demands will fluctuate, as there are uncontrollable variables inherent in healthcare (i.e., patient’s height and weight, patient’s level of cooperation and strength, specific clinical needs, etc.)

Physical Activities:

• All Peri-Operative Services jobs may require lifting/pushing/pulling varying weights, (may exceed two hundred (200) pounds).
• Activities may include intermittent or prolonged: standing, walking, sitting, talking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching with arms.
• Repetitive motions may also be required, such as: wrist/hand movements, grasping, and finger dexterity (as in typing, writing, faxing, filing papers, etc.)
   

Work Environment:

• The job requires the risk of exposure to the following environmental conditions: hazardous chemicals, anesthetic agents, body fluids and waste, blood borne diseases, infectious and contagious diseases, risk of electrical/mechanical shock, risk of burns and cuts,
• Exposure to unpleasant patients or unit elements, (i.e., accidents, injuries, and severe illnesses).
• The noise level may vary from very quiet to very loud.
   

Sensory Requirements:
The employee will need to be able to hear:

• Alarms on equipment / fire alarms / overhead announcements
• Patient / family verbal discussions
• Instructions / feedback from other healthcare providers

The employee will need to be able to see:

• Focus on close-up and distant objects
• Distinguish colors
• Have intact: peripheral vision and depth perception
