As a Small Equipment Mechanic at Truckee Rents, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of rental and customer-owned equipment like snowblowers, chainsaws, and other 2-cycle equipment to ensure safety, reliability, and performance. This role plays a critical part in supporting daily rental operations, delivering excellent customer service, and upholding Truckee Rents’ safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. *Candidates must have experience working on 2-cycle engines.*

Duties and Responsibilities

- Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on business rental equipment and customer-owned equipment using a variety of tools, machinery, and repair techniques.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure all equipment is in safe, working condition, identifying wear and tear, loose or damaged parts, and potential safety hazards.
- Assess equipment performance and compliance with safety standards prior to rental or return to service.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding equipment issues, maintenance needs, repair timelines, and work performed to ensure transparency and satisfaction.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for labor and parts for both internal repairs and customer service work.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, billable hours, and parts used.
- Educate customers on proper equipment operation, care, and preventative maintenance to promote safety and extend equipment life.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace at all times.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and in accordance with company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to prioritize tasks and support overall shop and rental operations.
- Continuously learn and stay current on new small engine technologies, tools, and repair techniques.
- Adhere to all company standards, workflows, and policies, including safety protocols, clock-in/clock-out procedures, and designated break and meal periods.
Skills and Qualifications
- Must be able to work in the United States
- Must be at least 18 years or older
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Must have ability to lift up to 100lbs – with or without assistance
- Must have ability to use a ladder
- Ability to use provided computer, programs, and technology-based equipment when needed
- Ability to perform duties in a fast-paced, confined environment while maintaining focus and efficiency
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel for up to 8 hours a day in varying seasonal temperatures
Experience
- Equipment repair and maintenance: 3+ years (preferred)
