Job Description - Small Equipment Technician

The Small Equipment Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various small tools and equipment used in construction and related industries. This role involves inspecting malfunctioning tools, identifying issues, and performing necessary repairs to ensure equipment functions efficiently. Additionally, the Small Equipment Technician conducts preventive maintenance to prolong the lifespan of tools and minimize downtime.

Roles and Responsibilities:


Including but not limited to the list below.



  • Examine malfunctioning small tools to determine the cause of the issue.

  • Perform repairs on small tools including, but not limited to, saws, electric pumps, compressors, small gas engine-powered equipment, and pneumatic tools.

  • Identify defective components and replace them with new parts to restore functionality.

  • Calibrate tools to ensure accurate performance, especially for precision instruments.

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on tools to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while repairing tools to ensure the well-being of yourself and others.

  • Keep track of spare parts inventory and reorder supplies as needed to maintain adequate stock levels.

  • Test repaired tools to verify proper functionality before returning them to service.

  • Provide assistance and support to internal employees or external customers regarding tool repairs and maintenance inquiries.

  • Offer guidance and training to users on proper tool handling and maintenance practices to minimize future issues.

  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.



Skills and Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED preferred. Relevant certifications or licenses in small tool repair are preferred.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Previous experience in small tool repair or a related field is preferred.

  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing small tools and equipment.

  • Knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical components, and pneumatics.

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve minor and complex technical issues efficiently.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and customers.

  • Commitment to following safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload effectively to meet repair deadlines.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.



Physical Requirements:



  • This role primarily involves working in a shop setting, although occasional travel to job sites for repairs or maintenance may be required.

  • Able and willing to work long hours, including responding to emergency maintenance situations.

  • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.

  • Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.

  • Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.

  • Requires good manual dexterity.
