Position Overview
Silver Maple is seeking a Smart Home & IT Specialist to support both our clients’ growing interest in smart home technologies and our internal technology needs across campus. This is a dual-role position, with approximately 75% of time focused on client-facing smart home consultation, configuration, and support, and 25% supporting internal IT needs for Silver Maple employees and facilities. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about technology, enjoys helping people, communicates clearly with non-technical users, and is eager to grow their expertise in smart home systems, networking, and IT support.
Primary Responsibilities
Smart Home Consultation & Implementation (»75%)
- Serve as Silver Maple’s internal expert and recommendation lead for smart home technologies requested by clients.
- Evaluate client needs, budget, platform preferences, and project scope to recommend best-fit smart home solutions.
- Partner closely with Silver Maple project teams throughout the full project lifecycle to ensure smart home technologies are thoughtfully planned and successfully integrated.
- Participate in early project planning and scoping discussions to identify smart home opportunities, infrastructure requirements, and potential constraints.
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, and trades to ensure appropriate device selection, rough-in planning, and alignment with construction schedules.
- Support a wide range of smart home technologies, including security systems, lighting, audio, and music distribution, appliances, thermostats, HVAC controls, and remote access systems.
- Review plans and specifications as needed to confirm smart home requirements are accounted for prior to installation.
- Stay current on emerging smart home products, platforms, and wireless standards (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, Matter).
- Configure and program installed devices, including system setup, optimization, and app configuration on client mobile devices.
- Support system commissioning and client handoff, ensuring systems are functional and clients understand how to use their technology.
- Collaborate with project teams to troubleshoot issues during installation and early
Internal IT & Campus Technology Support (»25%)
- Act as first-line technology support for Silver Maple employees experiencing hardware or software issues.
- Provide support across Apple, Microsoft, and Android devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones.
- Support Silver Maple’s transition to a Microsoft-based
- Serve as the primary liaison with Silver Maple’s third-party IT support partner, escalating issues as needed and coordinating resolutions.
- Assist with basic campus technology needs, including networking, peripherals, and shared
- Act as first-line technology support for Silver Maple employees experiencing hardware or software issues.
- Provide support across Apple, Microsoft, and Android devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones.
- Support Silver Maple’s transition to a Microsoft-based environment.
- Serve as the primary liaison with Silver Maple’s third-party IT support partner, escalating issues as needed and coordinating resolutions.
- Assist with basic campus technology needs, including networking, peripherals, and shared systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrated interest or hands-on experience with smart home technologies and/or IT
- Strong customer service mindset with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical
- Comfort working with mobile apps, device configuration, and basic networking
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional projects
