Snow Shoveler
Position Information
Status: Seasonal Part-Time, On-Call
Reports To: Snow Operations Manager / Snow Foreman
Position Summary
T&K Asphalt Services, Inc. is seeking dependable and safety-conscious Snow Shovelers to support the Company's winter snow and ice management operations. This position is responsible for manually removing snow and ice from walkways, entrances, stairs, sidewalks, loading areas, and other designated areas at customer properties. Snow Shovelers work as part of a snow operations team and must be prepared to work outdoors in winter weather conditions, often during overnight, early morning, weekend, and holiday hours. The ideal candidate will be reliable, physically capable, responsive to weather-related call-ins, and committed to providing safe and thorough service to customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manually remove snow and ice from sidewalks, walkways, entrances, stairs, ramps, loading areas, and other designated areas.
- Use snow shovels, ice scrapers, pushers, brooms, and other hand tools safely and effectively.
- Apply salt, ice melt, sand, or other approved deicing materials as directed.
- Break up and remove packed snow and ice from pedestrian areas.
- Clear snow and ice around building entrances, doors, walkways, fire lanes, and other high-priority areas.
- Assist with keeping pedestrian areas accessible and safe throughout snow and ice events.
- Follow instructions from the Snow Operations Manager, Snow Foreman, or other designated supervisor regarding assigned properties and work priorities.
- Work efficiently as part of a snow removal crew and assist coworkers as needed.
- Inspect assigned areas and report hazardous conditions, property damage, equipment issues, or other concerns to a supervisor.
- Exercise care around buildings, landscaping, curbs, vehicles, equipment, and other customer property.
- Load, unload, carry, and properly store snow removal tools and materials.
- Maintain and properly care for Company-provided tools and equipment.
- Follow all Company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
- Maintain professional conduct and appropriate communication while working at customer properties.
- Complete required job documentation, checklists, or time records accurately.
- Assist with additional snow and winter operations duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to safely and effectively use snow shovels and other manual snow removal tools.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in cold, snow, ice, wind, and other winter weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull snow removal tools and materials.
- Strong reliability and attendance are essential.
- Ability to respond to short-notice call-ins based on weather and operational needs.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Must be willing and able to work overnight, early morning, weekend, and holiday hours when required.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
- Work is performed primarily outdoors at customer properties during winter weather events.
- Frequent exposure to cold temperatures, snow, ice, wind, precipitation, and other severe weather conditions.
- Work may occur during overnight and early morning hours with limited daylight.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, shoveling, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be able to repeatedly shovel and move snow for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull tools and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- May be required to walk on uneven, slippery, snow-covered, or icy surfaces.
- Exposure to moving vehicles, snow removal equipment, salt, ice melt, and other winter maintenance materials.
- Must remain alert and aware of surroundings when working around vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Work may continue for extended periods during active snow and ice events.
Employment Conditions
- This is a seasonal, part-time, on-call position.
- Work schedules and hours are dependent upon snowfall, weather conditions, customer demands, and operational requirements.
- Employees may be contacted with short notice to report for snow and ice removal assignments.
- There are no guaranteed minimum hours, shifts, assignments, days of work, wages, earnings, or duration of employment. Available work and opportunities will vary based on weather, customer needs, staffing requirements, and Company operations.
- This position does not have a regular or fixed schedule and is not guaranteed a specific number of hours or assignments during the winter season.
- Employees are expected to maintain winter availability and respond to assignments when contacted, subject to applicable scheduling requirements.
- Work may occur overnight, early morning, on weekends, and on holidays depending on snow and ice events.
- Employment is contingent upon compliance with all Company safety policies and procedures.
