The Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois (population 56,852), located 23 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and five miles north of O’Hare International Airport, is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join its Human Services Department as a Social Worker located in the Police Department. The position will focus primarily on direct client services, collaboration and outreach emergency response and on-call duties. All Social Workers are expected to provide coverage across all services as needed. 

This exempt, full-time professional position provides comprehensive social work services to Mount Prospect residents and plays a vital role in supporting individuals, families, seniors, and vulnerable populations through crisis intervention, case management, advocacy, counseling, and community outreach. The Social Worker serves as a key liaison between the Human Services Department, Police Department, Fire Department, and community service agencies to address a wide range of social service needs.

Position Responsibilities

The Social Worker will provide a broad range of direct clinical and community-based services, including:

• Conducting psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, short-term counseling, and case management.
• Reviewing police reports and responding to referrals involving mental health concerns, domestic violence, victim assistance, homelessness, substance use, and other social service needs.
• Assist residents with writ detention court process.
• Providing advocacy and support for crime victims, including court accompaniment, assistance with Orders of Protection, and victim compensation applications.
• Conducting home visits and wellness checks for at-risk, homebound, or vulnerable residents.
• Participating in emergency  response efforts, disaster assistance activities, and after-hours crisis response as assigned.
• Providing training and consultation to Police Department personnel regarding behavioral health,  crisis intervention, and community resources.

Compensation and Benefits

This position is FLSA exempt. Salary range: $78,505 – $109,907 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

 Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required.
• Illinois Licensed Social Worker LSW) required; Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of professional social work experience, including direct client services and crisis intervention. Experience in a police department preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in clinical assessment, case management, advocacy, and community resource coordination.
• Fluency in Spanish is required.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, law enforcement personnel, and community organizations.
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License required.
• Ability to work flexible hours,  including evenings, on-call assignments, and emergency response situations as needed.
