Make a Difference Where It Matters Most

Do you believe that every student deserves to feel seen, supported, and inspired to succeed? The Granite YMCA is looking for dedicated and passionate SEL Instructors to join our Y-STAY (Support, Tutoring, Adventure, and Youth Development) team at several middle schools across Manchester, NH.

As an SEL Instructor, you’ll work one-on-one and in small groups with students facing academic and personal challenges. Through tutoring, mentorship, and social-emotional learning, you’ll help them build resilience, confidence, and a positive outlook on their future.

  • Adventure-Based Learning: Lead students in confidence-boosting outdoor experiences like hiking, skiing, and rock climbing that build teamwork, perseverance, and self-esteem.
  • Holistic Development: Serve as a trusted adult and role model — mentoring students through personal, social, and emotional challenges.
  • Collaborative Care: Work closely with families, school staff, and Y-STAY colleagues to track student progress, celebrate wins, and adjust support strategies.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years working with youth, preferably in SEL, mentoring, or educational support
  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
  • Enthusiasm for working with middle schoolers (grades 6–8)
  • Comfort with leading or participating in outdoor and adventure-based activities

Schedule & Expectations:

  • Monday–Friday, during school hours
  • Twice monthly team meetings after school
  • Participation in key YMCA and school district events like Rock the Block, Brunch with Frosty, etc.
  • 1–2 community events per year (outside of school hours)
  • Location: Hillside Middle School and Manchester Memorial High School.   – Manchester, NH
  • Manchester Memorial High School:   Enthusiasm for working with Middle - High School students.

What You’ll Get:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • FREE family YMCA membership
  • Up to 50% discount on childcare, classes, and camps
  • Generous paid time off (starting at 21 days/year)
  • 8% employer-funded retirement contribution
