As a Backend Software Engineer on the FS Automation program, you’ll support a dynamic microservice ecosystem that powers several modern web applications critical to mission operations. This team operates in a fast-paced environment using feature-driven development, modern streaming architectures, and containerized deployment. You’ll collaborate closely with technical leads, product owners, and customers, influencing design decisions and delivering reliable, scalable systems that directly support national security initiatives.

Schedule and Work Details

• Location: Columbia, MD

• Schedule: Full-time, standard day shift

• Clearance: Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph (must be active)

Here's What Your Day-to-Day Might Include

• Design, develop, and maintain Java microservice web applications

• Collaborate with the technical lead on system architecture and feature development

• Resolve complex engineering challenges and optimize backend performance

• Integrate services across a modern, containerized microservice ecosystem

• Engage directly with customers to gather requirements, resolve issues, and propose new features

• Support automated testing, build pipelines, and deployment to production environments

Minimum Qualifications

Clearance: Top Secret Clearance with Full Scope Polygraph (must be active). We do not have the ability to sponsor clearances.
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen. We cannot sponsor visas.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and twelve (12) years of software engineering experience

• OR sixteen (16) years of software engineering experience in lieu of a degree

Required Skills

• Strong proficiency in Java development including debugging and design

• Experience developing RESTful web applications

• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and microservice architectures

• Experience with MongoDB or comparable NoSQL databases

• Familiarity with automated testing and continuous integration practices

• Strong problem-solving ability and analytical mindset

Desired Skills

• Full-stack development experience using JavaScript

• Working knowledge of Python for scripting or service development

• Experience with Apache Kafka or event-driven data streaming

• Linux administration familiarity

• Experience with automated build tools and CI/CD pipelines

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Compensation Range: $199,000.00 - $262,000.00 
*The salary range provided reflects an estimate based on current market trends and may be adjusted based on factors such as the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. The final offer will be tailored after a thorough evaluation of the candidate’s background and suitability for the role. Please note that this range is intended as a guideline and is subject to flexibility.
