Job Description - Solar Engineering Manager (SME)

Position Overview: The Solar Engineering Manager (SME) will oversee both internal and external consultant engineering services, focusing on civil, electrical, and mechanical designs for Utility Scale Solar projects. This role plays a crucial part in supporting the success of the pre-construction team and offers opportunities for professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:
Reviewing reports on electrical systems analysis, including arc flash, short circuit, grounding, and coordination studies.
Understanding power system protection and relaying schemes for electrical distribution systems.
Familiarity with utility scale solar project designs, encompassing single line drawings, electrical site plans, and DC and AC wiring diagrams.
Proficiency in construction applications of solar power plant design, such as PV string sizing, conductor and conduit sizing, and racking/tracker design.
Knowledge of electrical and system studies necessary for plant designs.
Traveling across the country to conduct site visits and provide technical support to construction teams.
Experience with substation design review and coordination at medium voltages (typically 34.5 kV) to point of interconnect.
Direct and relevant experience with cutting-edge solar and battery storage equipment.
Developing, reviewing, and approving engineering scope of work documents.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical field, or related discipline.
3-5 years of experience in the solar construction industry or direct engineering on solar construction projects.
Positive attitude and collaborative approach in working with the team.
Knowledge of electrical design, materials, and construction methods in power systems.
Familiarity with CDGS, SKM, ETAP, or similar software.
Understanding of electrical distribution and transmission systems is advantageous.
Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) relevant to utility scale power plants is a plus.
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information effectively in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
