Job Description - Solar Ops Manager

A Solar Field Ops Manager plays a crucial role in the solar energy industry by overseeing the daily operations of solar energy projects and installations. This position focuses on ensuring that solar projects are executed efficiently, safely, and effectively, from the initial installation phase through to maintenance and troubleshooting. The job description for a Solar Field Operations Manager may include the following key responsibilities and requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management and Execution:

Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of solar projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with all safety and quality standards.

Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project progression.

Team Leadership and Development:

Lead and manage field operations teams, including installers, technicians, and subcontractors, providing training and guidance as needed.

Ensure all team members adhere to safety protocols and professional standards.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

Oversee routine maintenance and emergency repairs of solar installations, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.

Implement strategies for rapid response to field issues and technical challenges.

Compliance and Safety:

Ensure all field operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.

Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks to personnel and equipment.

Quality Control:

Implement quality control measures to ensure that all installations and maintenance activities meet or exceed industry standards.

Regularly inspect project sites to ensure work is performed accurately and efficiently.

Budget Management:

Manage budgets for field operations, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.

Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.

Stakeholder Communication:

Serve as a key point of contact for clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders regarding field operations.

Provide regular updates on project status, challenges, and achievements.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, although significant industry experience can sometimes substitute for formal education.

Proven experience in managing field operations, ideally in the solar or renewable energy sector.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication abilities.

Knowledge of electrical systems, photovoltaic technology, and industry-specific software.

Familiarity with safety and quality standards relevant to the solar industry.

Certification or training in project management, safety (e.g., OSHA), or specific solar technologies may be advantageous.

This role is critical for ensuring the efficiency, safety, and success of solar installations and requires a combination of technical knowledge, management skills, and operational expertise.
