Job Description - Sous Chef

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Sous Chef to join a busy, high-volume restaurant in Metairie, LA. This role works closely with the Executive Chef to oversee kitchen operations, lead culinary staff, and ensure exceptional food quality. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates hands-on leadership, and is passionate about creating memorable dining experiences in Metairie.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen Leadership & Culinary Execution

  • Support the Executive Chef in daily kitchen management in Metairie.
  • Supervise hot and cold line operations, ensuring timely service and consistent quality.
  • Prepare and cook dishes for both regular service and special events.
  • Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, and consistency.
  • Manage proper food storage, labeling, and inventory controls.

Team Management & Staff Development

  • Train, mentor, and guide line cooks and kitchen staff.
  • Schedule and assign daily tasks to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Set performance expectations and support staff growth.
  • Lead by example during high-volume service periods.

Compliance & Cost Management

  • Ensure all federal, state, and local food safety standards are met.
  • Maintain ServSafe and food safety compliance in Metairie.
  • Monitor food, labor, and supply costs, minimizing waste.
  • Oversee the cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen equipment.

  • 2+ years of culinary experience with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience in high-volume restaurant or hospitality operations.
  • ServeSafe or Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations and kitchen processes.
  • Skilled in hot and cold line production.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy kitchen equipment.
  • Culinary degree or advanced training in food and beverage management preferred.
  • Competitive salary: $60,000–$65,000/year
