Special Education Aide - Contract

We’re excited to offer a meaningful opportunity for an experienced and compassionate Special Education One-on-One Aide to join our team at Taos Day School in Taos, NM. This is a full-time, in-person contract position providing direct support to a high-needs student in a K-8th grade educational environment operated by the Bureau of Indian Education.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Taos day School located on the Taos Pueblo Indian Reservation 
•  Special Education One-on-One Aide (SPED 1:1) – Taos Day School
•  Up to a 10- month contract with extension options
•  Full-time hours, Monday through Friday, 
• Hours 7:30am to 4:00pm 
• Follows Taos Day School academic calendar, including staff development days

•  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or coursework toward a degree, in education or a related field preferred 
• Previous Special Education experience preferred

What You’ll Do:

•  Provide one-on-one support to a student with a disability in both academic and daily living tasks
•  Assist with transitions, personal care (toileting, eating, dressing), and classroom integration
•  Support individualized instruction under the  direction of the Special Education teacher
•  Implement behavior management strategies and classroom support systems
• Monitor and document IEP goals, student progress, and activities 
• Participate in staff meetings, IEP meetings, school events, and mandatory trainings
•  Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for the student throughout the school day
• Ensure confidentiality and compliance with federal privacy regulations 
• Support the educational mission of Taos Day School through collaboration with educators, families, and school leadership 
• Participate in tribal community events and complete required onboarding and training.

Indian Preference Exercised:

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required 
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or coursework toward a degree, in education or a related field preferred 
• At least one (1) year of experience working with children with disabilities in an educational, service agency, or recreational setting 
• Must be a U.S. Citizen 
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid state driver’s license 
• Must be able to pass a federal background check 
• Ability to assist with lifting, mobility, and personal care 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
• Patience, dependability, and a commitment to student success
