Position Overview
We're looking for a Special Education Manager to lead a team of Lead Teachers, Coordinators, and Support Teachers. In this strategic leadership role, you'll oversee student plans, ensure quality standards, manage data collection, and provide direct services. Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Oversight
- Supervise class teaching teams
- Conduct quarterly one-on-ones and annual performance reviews
- Guide hiring of team members
- Lead monthly coordination meetings (share minutes, include leadership attendance)
Program Quality & Documentation
- Ensure DOE and CDS (Child Development Services) quality assurance
- Monitor quarterly reports and progress notes for accuracy and timeliness
- Coordinate site visits, IEP meetings, and transitions
Administrative & Crisis Management
- Address staff/parent concerns professionally and promptly
- Step in during crises at any program location
Organizational Engagement
- Promote UCP as a preferred employer with strong supervision and recognition
- Support team communication and collaboration
- Participate in at least two UCP mission-related events annually
Documentation
- Accurately and promptly complete, review, and sign required documentation
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
- Certification: 282 Teacher of Students with Disabilities (birth–age 5), or willing to obtain within 2 years
- Experience: Supervisory experience
- Certifications Required Post-Hiring:
- CPR/First Aid/BBP (within 60 days)
- Safety Care (within 30 days)
- BHP (within 12 months)
- Logistics: Valid Maine driver’s license, reliable vehicle with registration & insurance
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Psychology, or related field
- Experience with autism spectrum and measurable-goals data collection
- Strong collaboration skills with families and providers
Physical & Other Requirements
- Able to squat, bend, kneel, climb stairs, lift =20 lbs, push/pull resistance
- Adequate vision, hearing, and communication ability
- Flexible and open to additional duties as assigned
