POSITION: Special Education Paraprofessional

PURPOSE OF JOB: To work closely with one or a few special needs pupils on a regular basis in an effort to provide them with the physical help and emotional support they need to gain full benefit from the district’s special education program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

• Assist the students to whom assigned in with physical tasks (putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room, and using the lavatory).
• Hear the students in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks. Guiding and helping them not teaching them.
• Perform simple errands and tasks for students (sharpening pencils, carrying lunch trays, etc.).
• Under supervision of special education teacher, work with small groups of students to reinforce materials initially introduced by the teacher.
• Accompany students to whom assigned with trips to the office, nurse, etc.
• Establish a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the students without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement
• Serve as a resource person if requested to the student assistance team about a student they are assigned to.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Special Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 60 + college credit hours
