Position: Special Inspector – Piles

Reports to: Manager – Special Inspections

General Qualities:

- Provide self-starter capable of setting a positive example for the staff.

- Travelling to various project sites on a daily basis.

- Must be detail oriented.

- Long periods of time standing on your feet.

Technical Responsibilities:

- Report non-conforming issues (NCR’s) to the contractor and client immediately.

- Prepares and submit detailed reports daily.

- Requires a valid, clean driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to ad transport testing equipment to various project sited primarily throughout the New York City metro area, as regular daily travel is required.

- Move around jobsites, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to assess necessary testing materials, equipment, and personnel.

- Use of necessary PPE such as gloves, boots, hardhats, and ear protection while on jobsites.

- Performs construction inspection on projects, which may involve highways, bridges, street, and structural work, including elements such as: sewers, catch basins and connections, drainage, water mains, utilities, curbs, sidewalks, roadways, mill and fill, structural steel and concrete, pile driving, railroads, traffic and streetlights, street appurtenances, and associated work.

- Ability to analyze special inspection test data, pile elevation, driving logs etc. to ensure compliance with NYC building code/project specifications.

- Monitoring construction operations, using and/or witnessing applicable field-testing procedures to perform required field inspections and testing, as well as all related testing as required by the project and client to determine compliance with project plans and specifications.

- Preparation of daily field reports, communication deficiencies observed in the field to project managers, contractors, and/or client representatives, and the interpretation of project-related drawings and documents, as well as all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience:

- Pile Foundations and Drilled Pier Installation – Relevant Building Codes: BC 1704.8/BC 1808.2.2

- Excavation – Sheeting, Shoring, and Bracing – Relevant Building Codes: BC 1704.19/3304.4.1

Educational and Required Skills/Abilities:

- Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering Degree.

- Licensed PE – preferred not required.

- A minimum of 1 year of experience inspecting construction work in the city of NY, varied in size and complexity.
