Description

LOCATION: Macomb County Health Department - Saint Clair Shores, MI 48081

POSITION SUMMARY: Under direction, responsible for facilitating and conducting workshops and evidence-based programs in a variety of community settings; assist with data collection and data analysis using basic epidemiologic methods; develop written and visual reports from collected data and data analysis; provides community outreach and supports partner agencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Duties Include, but are not limited to):

  • Coordinates and instructs presentations, workshops, and evidence-based programs in a variety of community settings.
  • Attend community outreaches, meetings, and coalitions as necessary to maintain relationships and build relationships with community partners.
  • Assist with social media health communication via Facebook, Instagram, and X.
  • Assists with surveys and community-based focus groups as they relate to the Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan.
  • Performs data analysis and creates visual presentations of findings.
  • Assist with a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative research activities. Contributes to and/or prepares portions of technical memoranda, reports and presentations.
  • Conduct community asset mapping utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Manages the preparation of public health reports for the Health Department and its constituent units.
  • Plans and participates in Emergency Preparedness exercises and related training.
  • May operate a county vehicle while performing assigned duties.
  • Complies with P.A. 390 as amended, known as the State’s Emergency Management Act and the County’s Emergency Management resolution as well as all related plans, policies, and procedures covered by these statutes.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Candidates must meet the minimum requirements, conditions of employment, and be able to perform all essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • A bachelor's degree in public health, Health Planning, Health Administration, or other health related field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in public health, community health, health promotion, health planning or a related area is preferred.
  • Knowledge of planning and evaluation techniques and practices as they relate to public health programs and activities.
  • Knowledge of computer applications useful for gathering and analyzing data relevant to community health assessment, program evaluation, and quality improvement.
  • Ability to initiate, coordinate, and implement policies, procedures, and programs to meet agency goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and infographic software.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and statistical software R is preferred.
  • Experience of web-based survey development in Survey Monkey, Alchemer, or Qualtrics.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and demonstrate decision-making & problem-solving abilities/skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other professionals, and agencies of the public.
  • Knowledge of the Michigan Public Health Code, 10 Essential Services of Public Health, and Core Competencies of Public Health.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Organizational ability and initiative.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and an operable insured automobile for authorized travel.
  • Ability to effectively speak, write and understand the English language.
  • Ability to conduct oneself with tact and courtesy.

Salary: $51,000 - $56,000 (based on experience & qualification)
