Job Summary:

As a Specimen Collector in a general medical laboratory, your primary role is to collect biological samples from patients for diagnostic testing and analysis. You will ensure that specimens are collected, labeled, and transported in accordance with laboratory protocols to maintain sample integrity and accuracy of test results

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Instructing patients on the proper procedure for collecting urine specimens.
• Interact with patients in a courteous and professional manner to explain the collection process, answer any questions, and ensure their comfort and compliance with the required procedures.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times, ensuring that collected samples are securely labeled and handled in accordance with relevant privacy regulations.
• Coordinating with couriers to collect and transport specimens across different clinics.
• Verify the identity of patients to ensure the correct sample is collected from the right individual.
• Accurately label collected samples with necessary patient information and enter relevant data into the laboratory information system or other required documentation.
• Follow safety protocols and guidelines for handling potentially infectious materials and biohazardous substances to protect both patients and themselves.
• Keep detailed records of collected samples, patient interactions, and any incidents that occur during the collection process.
• Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Some positions may require additional medical or laboratory training.
• Prior experience in a healthcare setting or specimen collection is preferred.
• Attention to Detail: Precision in sample collection, labeling, and documentation is crucial to ensure accurate test results and patient safety.
