SPED Tutor - Foundational Reading & Math (Down Syndrome)

About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Long Beach, CA

Details:

• In-Person Tutoring in Long Beach, CA
• Schedule: 6 hours, 1 session a week at 1.5 hours
• Pay range is between $25 and $35

Ideal Candidate:

• Experience working with students with Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, and speech delays
• Skilled in supporting:
• Foundational reading (sight words, alphabet recognition, early decoding)
• Early writing and letter formation (including hand-over-hand support)
• Early math skills and number recognition (1–30)
• Strong behavior-management skills; able to remain calm, patient, and consistent
• Creative and able to use the student’s interests (animals, dinosaurs, Disney, jungle themes) to build engagement
• Structured, dependable, and able to deliver highly scaffolded lessons
• Comfortable conducting an initial academic assessment

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individualized instruction in early literacy, writing, and foundational math
• Teach sight words, alphabet recognition, early reading skills, and letter formation
• Support number recognition (1–30), early numeracy, and basic math concepts
• Implement behavior-support strategies and maintain a positive, structured learning environment
• Use visual, hands-on activities and multisensory approaches
• Incorporate preferred themes and interests to boost motivation
• Conduct an initial assessment to guide instruction and track progress
• Communicate ongoing progress to the family
