The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Speech, Hearing, and Language Specialist for the South County SELPA of the Student Services and Programs division. Under the general direction of the SELPA Director or Designee, will serve students with speech, hearing and language impairments; will, plan, develop and implement individualized education plans; conduct student assessments, provide consultation to staff and parents, and participate in IEP meetings. ID 2526 - This position is an itinerant position serving students throughout the South County and will be focused on providing services/evaluations to students requiring ASL instruction. Bilingual in ASL preferred. ID 2661 - This position is an itinerant position serving students at Davila Day School and throughout the South County. This position will provide services/evaluations to students, including students who are deaf and hard of hearing (DHH). Bilingual in ASL preferred. This position is full-time and will offer the certificated benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, and will participate in the CalSTRS state retirement system. About South County SELPA The South County SELPA coordinates special education program development and student placements for more than 11,000 students from birth through age 22. They operate in the southern region of San Diego County and member districts include the elementary and high school districts of Coronado, Chula Vista, National, San Ysidro, South Bay, Sweetwater and San Diego County Office of Education programs.

Requirements / Qualifications

Experience: Prior job experience working with students who are deaf and hard of hearing, including those with cochlear implants is preferred in some assignments. Must have experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team doing assessments, interpreting diagnostic evaluations, collaborating with general special education staff, teachers, and providing family/staff consultation; and

Education: Post-graduate coursework in speech, hearing development, and language disorders, or related field;

Equivalency: A combination of education and experience equivalent to post-graduate coursework in speech, hearing development and language disorders, or related field and prior job experience working with students who are deaf and hard of hearing, including those with cochlear implants is preferred in some assignments. Must have experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team doing assessments, interpreting diagnostic evaluations, collaborating with general special education staff, teachers, and providing family/staff consultation and post-graduate coursework in speech, hearing development, and language disorders, or related field.

Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:

* Valid California Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential with an authorization in Language, Speech and Hearing or a Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential with an authorization in Language, Speech and Hearing; or equivalent document.* Valid California Driver's License* CPR certification as issued by an American Red Cross or an American Heart Association-approved program

A stipend of $6,000, paid out after three (3) years of consecutive full-time service, shall be paid to unit members hired on or after July 1, 2018, who hold state certification and are employed as Audiologists, Speech Hearing and Language Specialists, or in positions requiring authorizations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), Visually Impaired (VI) or Orientation and Mobility (O&M). The stipend will be paid out at the completion of the third instructional year.

This position is also eligible for Article XV: Salary, Section 2.C.5.B of the negotiated agreement between SDCOE and SDCAE.

* Note: Valid California credentials are a requirement at the time of hire. If you do not possess the required California credentials, you may go to the California Commission of Teacher Credentialing website https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/out-of-state-app for details on meeting California's requirements.
