Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA)

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides educationally related speech and language support services to students under the supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). This role involves implementing therapy plans, assisting with assessments, and documenting student progress. The SLPA ensures students receive targeted interventions to achieve IEP goals and maximize functional communication outcomes.

Compensation and Benefits

• Part-time, Non-exempt
• Up to two days per week (16 hours total), with Fridays preferred through May 20, 2026

• Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders; Speech and Hearing Sciences; Speech-Language Pathology; OR a bachelor’s degree in another field with 24 credits in Speech Language Hearing Sciences
• Current certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) in Colorado
• Training in or willingness to train in nonviolent crisis intervention (CPI) techniques
• Completion of 50 contact hours of continuing education every five years to maintain SLPA certification with CDE
• Knowledge of speech and language interventions and educational best practices
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
• Patience, empathy, and commitment to supporting student development

Duties and Responsibilities

• Instruct students in individual or group settings under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist in areas including phonetics, vocabulary and language, fluency, oral motor exercises, and other speech-language activities.
• Follow and implement documented treatment plans or protocols established by the supervising SLP.
• Prepare therapy materials, including visuals, communication boards, and equipment for use in session activities.
• Document student progress toward established objectives and goals and report findings to the supervising SLP.
• Assist in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts, graphs, and reports.
• Consult with the SLP, special education teachers, and other staff to provide requested information and implement service plans.
• Observe and report significant behavioral patterns or other concerns to the supervising SLP.
• Assist in maintaining appropriate student behavior during therapy sessions and tasks.
• Consult with the SLP to program and troubleshoot Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices as needed.
• Participate in professional development and trainings as required, including CPI (nonviolent crisis intervention) techniques if applicable.
• Maintain compliance with all school policies, procedures, and regulations, including safety and emergency protocols.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work primarily performed in a school setting interacting with students, staff, and families
• Frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
• Mental functions include communicating, analyzing, coordinating, instructing, evaluating, and using interpersonal skills
• Exposure to routine classroom environments with potential for sensory stimuli
