Job Description - Speech Language Pathologist SLP/SWAAAC

Position Title:                         SLP/SWAAAC Specialist (assistive, augmentative, and alternative communication)

Department:                           Children’s Services Division

Reporting Function:              School Director

Supervisory Functions:         None

Schedule:                                     8 am-4 pm, M-F. This position is a full calendar year.

Starting Salary Range:               *$65,000-$81,250 annually. 

*The stated starting salary pay range for this position is meant to reflect a range of where a typical entry level candidate would start and is not meant to be all inclusive. Additional education and experience may result in a starting pay outside of the stated range.*

Job Summary: To work directly and consult with students, staff, and families/caregivers to improve students’ ability to communicate with others, and improve written language skills using a variety of software and assistive technology.  The SWAAAC specialist will assess students for assistive technology needs, report findings to IEP teams, provide training to students, staff, and families/caregivers on the use of assistive and augmentative communication devices or applications, collect data, and monitor student progress.  The SWAAAC specialist will develop good community relations with all stakeholders.

Duties/Responsibilities:                  
  • Evaluate students for assistive technology needs in verbal, written, and nonverbal communication.
  • Participate with the interdisciplinary team in the development of the IEP for students with assistive technology needs.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, communicate effectively, and maintain student confidentiality.
  • Maintain records and appropriate documentation for designated caseload.
  • Complete funding documentation for families purchasing assistive technology for students.
  • Train students, staff, and families/caregivers in the use of low technology communication systems and high technology assistive and augmentative communication devices, applications, or software.
  • Provide consultation to staff and families/caregivers as needed.  Troubleshoot software and equipment when needed.
  • Collaborate with the Statewide Assistive Technology, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (SWAAAC) organization to access professional development in order to stay current in best practices in educational technology and to access the loan bank for students.
  • Maintain inventory of devices, applications, and software.  Coordinate with Laradon’s IT department for support and systems integration.
  • Drive students to community outings as needed.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • As Laradon is a small employer and employees work in a collaborative, team environment, employee must be physically present in the school to perform his/her job functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Training                             
Requirements:
  • All trainings deemed mandatory by Laradon
  • Orientation training to include first aid/CPR and Safety Care
  • A minimum of 24 hours of training annually
  • 20 hours of on the job training
                                                                                               

Minimum Position        
Requirements:
  • Colorado Department of Education License in special education or specialized services provider
  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge of educational technology
  • Experience in working with school aged children.
  • Valid driving license, good driving record, and reliable transportation.  Must have the ability to drive.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, flexibility, strong communication skills and positive attitude
  • Physical requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force; physical condition to enable walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; stamina to be on feet and active for full workdays; ability to speak or exchange information in an audible manner.
