The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in residents of a skilled nursing facility. The SLP collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized treatment plans that promote functional independence and safe participation in daily activities.
Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing function.
Develop individualized treatment plans based on evaluation findings and physician orders.
Provide evidence-based therapy for:
Dysphagia (swallowing disorders)
Aphasia
Dysarthria
Apraxia of speech
Cognitive-communication deficits
Voice disorders
Conduct bedside swallowing evaluations and recommend appropriate diet textures and liquid consistencies.
Educate residents, families, and caregivers regarding communication and swallowing strategies.
Document evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, recertifications, and discharge summaries in accordance with facility, payer, and regulatory requirements.
Participate in interdisciplinary care plan meetings and communicate resident progress with physicians, nursing staff, occupational therapists, physical therapists, dietitians, and social workers.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards, including those of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and state licensing boards.
Recommend adaptive equipment and compensatory strategies to maximize resident safety and independence.
Maintain productivity standards while delivering high-quality patient-centered care.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
Current state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association preferred
Current CPR certification
Experience in geriatrics, rehabilitation, or skilled nursing preferred.
