Job Title: Spinner- Metal

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for safely spinning bell components and bells for all families of brass wind instruments.
2. Job duties include material handling, preparing component parts and tooling, setting up and maintaining all equipment and tooling, and performing a prescribed and distinct sequence of spinning and related operations for assigned job.
3. Work procedures for these operations must follow standardized methods in a clearly prescribed sequence.
4. Required to inspect work in process components and completed bells according to prescribed methods and measures.
5. Required to move, lift, and maneuver all raw materials, work in process, component parts, or finished parts (up to 60 lbs.) to assigned locations, either by hand or by mechanical means safely and carefully.
6. Required to correctly and accurately to select and set-up the specified mandrel for each assigned spinning operation. Lift, maneuver, secure and remove mandrels from lathe mount. Required to grind, form, shape, maintain and repair all tooling.
7. Must be able to load bell blanks to the appropriate mandrel and secure the bell blank with a hand-held wrench.
8. Required to deliver completed bell flairs to subsequent production operations.
9. A hand-held orbital sander is used to polish the outer edge of the bell flair prior to beading, with or without enclosing a support wire. The final bead must accurately enclose the support wire without compromising the integrity of the bead.
10. The rotating platform must be set up and adjusted to apply the appropriate amount of heat, flux and solder to secure the support wire within the bell bead. The soldered area is then sieved with a hand-held knife and polished with a hand-held orbital sander to remove any excess solder.
11. Required to maintain an appropriate, clean, and safe work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Regular Attendance.
2. Manufacturing Process Aptitude.
3. Ability to work autonomously.
4. Ability to make sound judgment based on consistent and objective measures.
5. Required to spin bell blanks while standing on an elevated work platform and applying the working end of a wooden stick or metal spoon against the spinning bell blank at various angles, applying the appropriate amount of pressure.
6. Ability to use a variety of hand tools, measuring devices (micrometers and calipers, etc.) Use of related manufacturing equipment and operating controls.
7. Required to properly dispose of or recycle any scrap material generated by any assigned production operation, and are required to maintain an appropriate, clean, and safe work environment.
8. Exposure to manufacturing environment, including dust, noise, and vibration.
