Overview






The Sports Instructor Lead is responsible for planning and leading engaging youth and adult sports programs at the Escondido YMCA – A Campus for Community Well-being.
 
This position creates a safe, positive, and inclusive environment while teaching fundamental skills, promoting sportsmanship, and encouraging healthy lifestyles through basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and soccer. Sports Instructor Leads serve as positive role models, fostering confidence, teamwork, and a sense of belonging while delivering high-quality programs that strengthen individuals and build a healthier community.

Schedule

  • Location: Escondido YMCA
  • Must have Basketball and/or Soccer experience  
  • Weekday afternoons, nights, and Saturdays








Responsibilities






  • Previous experience coaching, teaching, or leading youth and adult sports programs, preferably in basketball, volleyball, pickleball, or soccer.
    Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate participants of different ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
    Knowledge of sports fundamentals, safety practices, game rules, and age-appropriate instruction
  • Plan, lead, and supervise assigned youth and adult sport practices, clinics, and games. Prepares game schedules and confirm attendance 
  • Prepare sports fields and courts for use including equipment set up and breakdown 
  • Provide ongoing training, supervision, and support for all Sports Instructors and Sports Instructor Assistants 
  • Maintain a safe environment ensuring playing areas are suitable for game play 
  • Serve as a score keeper for assigned games 
  • Maintain a positive relationship with staff, participants, volunteer coaches, and parents 
  • Track attendance of participants in games, clinics, and practices, along with maintaining records 
  • Ensure effective communication with parents, colleagues, volunteers, and participants 
  • Ability to supervise and interact with staff and participants 
  • The physical ability to lead in group activities and to perform related physical skills 
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures 
  • Other duties as assigned 








Qualifications






  • High school diploma or GED  
  • 2+ years’ experience working with youth and adult sports 
  • Sincere interest in and ability to work with groups of athletes, parents, and staff of diverse ethnic populations 
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation 
  • Ability to supervise and interact with staff and athletes 
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: 
    • American Red Cross 
    • American Heart Association 
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range






USD $19.69 - USD $22.50 /Hr.
