Job Description
The Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer will serve as a technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, governing, and supporting VDOT's enterprise Azure cloud environment. This role will drive cloud infrastructure strategy, operational excellence, security, disaster recovery, and migration initiatives while collaborating closely with architecture, security, development, and governance teams. The successful candidate will also mentor engineers, provide executive-level technical guidance, and help establish cloud engineering best practices across the organization.
Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure & Engineering
Design, implement, configure, and govern Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud services.
Implement, maintain, monitor, and optimize mission-critical Azure resources within a large enterprise environment.
Plan and execute cloud migration initiatives, including migrating workloads from on-premises environments to Microsoft Azure.
Develop infrastructure solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies, including Terraform and comparable technologies.
Build and maintain highly available, scalable, and resilient cloud platforms.
Security & Governance
Implement and maintain Azure networking, security policies, and governance standards.
Support enterprise vulnerability remediation efforts using security tools such as Tenable.
Collaborate with security, architecture, and governance teams to strengthen the organization's cloud security posture.
Recommend cloud security strategies and technical improvements to management and executive leadership.
Monitoring, Backup & Disaster Recovery
Develop enterprise observability solutions using Azure Monitor, Workbooks, Alerts, and related monitoring tools.
Manage enterprise backup and disaster recovery operations to ensure business continuity.
Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies that minimize downtime and protect critical business data.
Monitor production cloud environments and proactively resolve infrastructure issues.
Operational Support & Collaboration
Provide advanced operational support and troubleshooting for production cloud infrastructure and applications.
Collaborate with architecture, development, networking, security, and governance teams on enterprise initiatives.
Mentor, guide, and cross-train engineers while promoting engineering best practices.
Communicate technical recommendations, risks, and cloud strategies to technical and executive stakeholders.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
10 years of experience implementing, maintaining, monitoring, and providing guidance on Microsoft Azure infrastructure and resources.
7 years of experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies such as ARM or Bicep.
10 years of experience planning and executing migrations from on-premises environments to Microsoft Azure.
10 years of experience supporting mission-critical enterprise environments and implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies.
10 years of experience implementing Azure networking and security policies.
10 years of experience using Azure Monitor for alerting, observability, dashboards, and monitoring.
10 years of experience with vulnerability remediation and enterprise security initiatives.
Must physically reside within the United States for the duration of the assignment.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
Must be able to attend an in-person interview.

Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent.

This is a 1099 Contract opportunity.
Pay Rate:$77 – $97 per hour
