DESCRIPTION
For over 50 years, Bet Tzedek has set the standard for innovation and excellence in poverty law. As the agency’s grant portfolio continues to grow in scale and complexity, Bet Tzedek seeks a mission‑driven Director, Grants Management to lead the organization’s fiscal grants management and reporting strategy and cross‑functional grant operations.
This senior role reports to the Chief Financial & Operating Officer and partners closely with the Controller, Institutional Giving, Development, VP, Grants Implementation & Compliance and Program leadership. The Director oversees all financial aspects of public and private grants, ensuring alignment between organizational strategy, programmatic deliverables, and financial stewardship. This position is eligible for Bet Tzedek Legal Services’ hybrid/remote workplace designation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Strategic Leadership & Oversight
- Lead the organization’s end‑to‑end grants financial management function, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting frameworks, and multi-year grant planning.
- In collaboration with the VP, Grants Implementation & Compliance and the Controller, develop agency-wide grant management policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure regulatory compliance and organizational risk mitigation.
- Oversee the full grant portfolio and provide executive-level reporting, analysis, and strategic recommendations to the CFOO.
Financial Management & Compliance
- Direct the preparation, review, and approval of all grant budgets, revisions, and financial narratives.
- Ensure accurate, timely monthly invoicing and financial reporting for all public and private grants.
- Establish systems for monitoring spending vs. budget, spend-down planning, and compliance with funder terms.
- Coordinate with the VP, Grants Implementation and Compliance in leading organization-wide audit readiness and manage all fiscal aspects of grant audits.
Cross-Department Partnership
- Partner with Legal, Institutional Giving, Individual Giving, and Program Directors to align fiscal and programmatic deliverables.
- Guide Program leadership in operationalizing grant requirements and tracking deliverables.
- Build and facilitate cross-functional workflows ensuring seamless communication across Finance, Development, and Program teams.
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage and grow the grants accounting team—including Senior Grants Accountants and Grants Analysts.
- Provide mentoring, training, and leadership development to staff to strengthen agency-wide grants budgeting and management capacity.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
External Partner & Funder Engagement
- Serve as a senior liaison with foundation, governmental, and corporate funders on grant related financial matters.
- Along with the VP, Grant Implementation & Compliance, represent Bet Tzedek during grant related audits, financial reviews, and compliance assessments.
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in strategic planning and budgeting processes at the agency-wide level.
- Other duties as assigned by the CFOO.
COMPETENCIES
- Deep expertise in nonprofit grants management, fund accounting, GAAP and FASB standards.
- Proven ability to synthesize and analyze complex financial data sets and communicate insights effectively.
- High-level problem-solving and systems-thinking capability.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership qualities; ability to inspire, mentor, and develop staff.

REQUIREMENTS
- BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA or Master’s in accounting/finance preferred.
- 10+ years progressively responsible experience in nonprofit accounting and grants management.
- Demonstrated success managing a team and overseeing large, diverse grant portfolios.
- Advanced proficiency with Blackbaud or comparable accounting platforms; strong Excel and reporting skills.
- Experience with government grant compliance and nonprofit audit standards.
$145,000 - $150,000 (DOE/DOQ)
